Our junior teams compete in the Bendigo Junior Football League and our program has a strong focus on developing skills and fitness and fostering young talent.

Junior Football

The Junior Football program at Castlemaine Football Netball Club provides a positive, fun atmosphere and balances that with a quality program providing solid opportunities for development and exposure.

We focus on developing skills and fitness and fostering young talent.

Our positive culture is central to everything. We encourage all members of the community to get involved and we pride ourselves on the active involvement of our senior men and women in junior development.

We welcome players of all ages and skill levels. Whether your child is new to football and wants to come and learn our national game or is already experienced and keen to progress their footy in the strongest competition in our area, we can support them.

Our Auskick, Under 9, Under 10 and Under 12 Girls programs are a perfect way for boys and girls just finding their feet in the game to get a great grounding, make friends and get active.

With a strong team of fully accredited coaches, great ratios and first class brand new facilities at the Wesley Hill Recreation Reserve, we can offer your child a great experience whatever their skill level and their goals are.

Under 9 & Under 10 Football Development

The Bendigo Junior Football League (BJFL) includes an awesome modified program for girls and boys playing Under 9, Under 10 and Under 12 Girls to get to know the game.

Play happens on a reduced size ground and runs for 4 x 10 minute quarters; with no scores, ladders or finals allowed. Modified tackle and marking rules, no smothering, shepherding or barging means kids get to know the game and learn the skills to take them to the next level in a safe, inclusive and fun environment.

Kids can then progress on to our U12, U14 or U16 teams or through to our fantastic junior girls program.

Junior Girls Football

Our region’s junior girls program includes an U15 and U18 competition and reflects the growing interest in female football in our region.

In order to better connect junior girls to football and each other between seasons, CFNC Juniors will continue its ‘Girls Summer Series’ program for 2023-2024. The Summer Series is open to all girls between the ages of 10-18 who either currently play or are new to football.

As the junior teams do not experience a pre-season, it is an opportunity for girls to get together and kick the football once a month under the supervision of our coach. Please follow our Club on social media for more information on dates and times.

Football boots and mouth guards not required. Just bring your runners, drink bottle and sun protection.

In weekly sessions the kids explore the world of AFL, building football skills and playing in a fun, safe and inclusive environment.

Under 12, Under 14 & Under 16 Boys Football

Our Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16 teams provide the next step for junior footballers wanting to further develop their skills.

With an accredited coaching staff including the direct input of senior footballer and Club Life Member John Watson into the Under 18 Boys development, junior football at CFNC Juniors will provide players the physical and technical grounding they need to eventually transition into senior football.

Under 18 Youth Girls Football

As a Hub for the Bendigo Pioneers Football Club and home to one of the Pioneers’ Junior Pathways Programs, the CFNC Juniors developed an extremely successful Youth Girls football team to service our region.

This provided young female footballers the opportunity to further develop their skills and play football at the highest level. After making the finals each consecutive year since 2013, and winning two premierships during this time, the team was disbanded after the 2017 playing season due to lack of interest. It is the CFNC Junior’s goal that Youth Girls football comes back to the Club in the coming years.

A number of the Youth Girls players went on to play for the Bendigo Pioneers and eventually for teams throughout the Central Victoria Football League Women’s and beyond that, the AFLW.

Our strategy for the future would see a full pathway develop from AusKick/Junior Girls right through to Under 18 Youth Girls and Senior Women’s. The CFNC’s commencement of a Senior Women’s team in Season 2022 was a significant part of this vision and we work closely with our senior Club to identify opportunities to further enhance girls participation in sport.

Castlemaine Football Netball Club will be entering an Under 18 team into the Central Victorian Football League in 2024.
